Open year-round. Starting April 15, 2006, sites 8 through 17 will be available only by reservation. These sites will be available for reservations year round.
Offering 28 miles of nearby horse trails, Whetstone Horse Camp is a gateway for horseback riders who like to ride and camp. It serves as a base camp for riders on both the Rocky Gap (South Carolina) and the Willis Knob (Georgia) Horse Trails. The camp, located 13 miles northwest of Walhalla, has 20 sites with parking spurs for horsetrailers; 10 are first come, first served, while up to 10 may be reserved. Site amenities include centrally-located drinking water, cooking grills, hitching rails, tables and lantern posts as well as wheelchair accessible toilets.
Sites 8 and 9 are next to each other (double site).
Sites 10 and 11 are next to each other (double site).
When you make a reservation, post one of the following on the clip provided at your site: a) Your confirmation letter. b) Your reservation number. c) The name of the person that the site is reserved for.
Maximum Advanced Reservation window is 240 days.

WHETSTONE HORSE CAMP (SC) campground will be closed from Dec 1, 2009 - Apr 30, 2010.
Maximum stay limit is 14 days. $12/night (without reservation) should be deposited in the fee collection box located at the campground OR $12/night (with reservation) *Same day reservations can be made at this facility*

From Walhalla, go north 6 miles on State Highway 28. Turn left onto Whetstone Road. Go straight for about 5 miles. From the four-way stop, go straight for another 1.5 miles. The pavement ends and gravel begins. A sign for Whetstone Horse Camp is about 3/4 mile down the gravel road. There is a sign for Whetstone Horse Camp on the left and day-use parking on the right.
