Dam East Recreation Area is located at Carlyle Lake, near Carlyle, Illinois. If you and your family are in search of fun, look no further! Whether you are land loving or ready to venture out on the open water, at Carlyle Lake there is something for everyone! You can visit for the day or pack up for a longer stay in one of the many lakeside campgrounds and enjoy being surrounded by outdoor adventures. Carlyle Lake offers many opportunities for family fun. From boating and sailing in the open waters, to the sandy beaches and shaded picnic areas, we are sure that you will find plenty of things to do. While here, visitors enjoy a leisurely stroll across the Main Dam, cycle around the lake, or a strenuous workout along the miles of hiking trails . Each year, the Corps of Engineers along with its Partners, sponsor many special events and the Arts & Ecology Environmental Education Series. Carlyle Lake is also known for excellent fishing and hunting areas.

Alerts and Important Information
Reservations must be made at least 3 days in advance. Group shelters may be reserved from 1 May-31 Oct. Shelter hours are 8:00am until 10:00pm daily.

From I-57: Take Old Rt.50 west for 37 miles to the Dam East entrance road and turn north. Turn east at next intersection and proceed east for 1.2 miles to Dam East Day Use Area.
From I-64: Take Rt.127 and travel north to Carlyle and turn east on Old U.S. Rt 50. Proceed east for 2 miles and turn north on Dam East entrance road. Turn east at next intersection and continue for 1.2 miles to the Dam East Day Use Area.
