George J. Hatfield State Recreation Area is surrounded by the Merced River. Located in the San Joaquin Valley, this park offers swimming and fishing. The area was once the home of Native Americans. The park has many trees and is home to various wildlife, especially birds. The park has picnic areas.

Discount Pass must be presented at the time of check in.
- Fees include entry for 1 vehicle and 1 legally towed vehicle or trailer, additional vehicles will be charged per night at the park.

The recreation area is at 4394 North Kelly Road in Hilmar.
From Interstate 5, take the Newman exit into Newman and continue east on County Road J-18 for five miles; the park entrance is just past the San Joaquin River bridge.
