Description
.The Chowchilla Recreation Area is located at Eastman Lake in the Sierra Nevada foothills about an hour drive north of Fresno, CA. Tall grasses and scattered oak trees cover the rolling hills surrounding the lake. Wildlife is abundant. Local residents include bobcats, golden eagles, hawks, wood ducks, deer, snakes, and bald eagles. Eastman is a designated trophy bass fishery and you may also enjoy catching crappie, trout or catfish. The visitor center is a good stop to discover the natural and cultural history of the area. A group picnic shelter is available for reservation. A playground, horseshoe pits, and restrooms are nearby. Nearly 8 miles of trails are available for hikers, mountain bikers, or horseback riders.

Reservations must be made at least 3 days in advance.
The park is open year round . The group picnic shelter is available for $25/day. The shelter will accommodate up to 100 people. Nearby parking is available. For more information, please call (559) 689-3255.
Members of the group renting this shelter are NOT subject to the regular $4.00 day use fee. Please call Eastman Lake directly at (559) 689-3255 to arrange for free passes for each vehicle that is a part of your group.

50 miles north of Fresno, CA. Take Highway 99 north to Ave 17 east, follow to Road 26 north to Avenue 26 east to Road 29 north. Turn left on Road 29 and travel 8 miles to the park entrance. Follow the signs into the campground.
