KAH SHEETS LAKE CABIN

Camping Reservations

Description

The Kah Sheets Lake Cabin is located at the southeast end of Kah Sheets Lake (elevation 156'), on the south end of Kupreanof Island, above Kah Sheets Bay. It is accessible by floatplane, or by a boat and hiking trail combination. This is a modified A-frame cabin with 2 single wooden bunks, a sleeping loft, an oil heater, covered deck, dock, 2 rowboats, and an outhouse. The cabin, outhouse, and boardwalk are wheelchair-accessible. There are no mattresses or cooking utensils. Cabin users should bring sleeping bags, pads, cookstove, cooking gear, food, and #1 heating oil. Cabin users who intend to use the rowboat provided should bring personal flotation devices, and may also choose to bring a small outboard motor. The surrounding area is a mixture of muskeg and forest. The cabin is situated in an open area along the lakeshore near the outlet. The Kah Sheets Lake Trail (not barrier-free) begins behind the cabin and traverses muskeg and forest throughout its 2.75-mile length, ending at Kah Sheets Bay and Cabin. Off the main trail, two spur trails lead to sections of the creek. The upper spur ends at a viewing platform complete with bench. The route is an easy walk. The area's abundant muskegs support a large variety of berries and wildflowers. Wildlife viewing is quite good, especially for those interested in bears and waterfowl.
