Description
Description: Built in 1992, this 14' x 16' hunter-style cabin sleeps 6 people with 2 single bunks and 2 double bunks. The cabin also has a table with benches, an oil space heater (#1 oil ONLY), a mooring float (for cabin permittees only), a broom, and an outhouse. A half-loft provides storage area for additional items. A small deck wraps around two sides of the cabin, and there is an attached wooden cooler for food storage.
The cabin has no mattresses or cooking utensils. Cabin users should bring sleeping bags, pads, cookstove, cooking gear, food, and #1 oil for the space heater. There is no phone access.
Proximity: The cabin is situated overlooking Frosty Bay and a portion of Deer Island. There is a small stream next to the cabin. The surrounding forest is primarily Sitka spruce and western hemlock with some cedar trails. There is a surfaced planked trail (about 60 feet long) from the cabin to a Forest Service road system.
Roads: Forest Service Roads were constructed in 1991 - 1992 in conjunction with the Frosty Bay Timber Sale. The road system is about 10 miles in length and is unmaintained. The road is isolated. It is NOT connected to any other road system, and you cannot drive to it from other roads.
Wildlife: Brown and black bear, deer, waterfowl, and moose.
Fish: Pink salmon (July and August), in nearby Frosty Creek; King Salmon (May - July), silver salmon (August and September) crab, halibut in nearby adjacent saltwater.
