Camping Reservations

Description

Access by floatplane or canoe/portage. This cabin is in a designated Wilderness area, and access by helicopter is illegal. This cabin is located on the northern shore of Distin Lake. The cabin is primitive, with no electricity, plumbing, or phone. It is a hunter style cabin on the North side of Distin Lake. The construction of this cabin was completed in September, 2003. It replaced the old A-frame cabin on the same site. It has four bunks and can sleep up to six people. The cabin is equipped with wooden bunks, table and benches, is heated with a wood stove and has an outside toilet. Fire wood is provided in a woodshed near the cabin. It does not have mattresses or cooking utensils. Cabin users should bring their own sleeping bags, pads, cook stoves, cooking gear and food. A skiff with oars is provided. Cabin users should bring personal flotation devices and may also choose to bring a small outboard motor (less than 10 horsepower due to wilderness regulations). Trails accessible from Distin Lake go to Thayer Lake (3 miles from Distin Lake cabin), Lake Guerin (.4 mile from trail head), and Davidson Lake (.2 mile from trail head). The person holding the reservation must be 18, and must be a member of the group using the cabin. Use of this cabin by a commercial operator, such as an outfitter or guide, is NOT allowed. Visitors are asked to carry out all that they bring in. There are NO discounts for Golden Age/Passports for Alaska cabin rentals. Reservations are restricted to a maximum stay of 7 consecutive nights per party for any one reservation May 1-September 30 and a maximum stay of 10 consecutive nights per party Oct 1-April 30.

Located 50 miles south of Juneau, in the central portion of Admiralty Island. Cabin is on the north side of Distin Lake. Access by floatplane or canoe and portage. This cabin is in a designated wilderness area, and access is illegal by helicopter. One-way flight time from Juneau is approximately 45 minutes. It is 8 miles by canoe and portage to Mitchell Bay.
