Jonathan Dickinson State Park Trails
This state park, west of Hobe Sound, is nearly 11,500 acres of pine scrub, pine flatwoods and cypress sloughs. The rare coastal sand pine scrub community which makes up 20 percent of the park is considered a “globally imperiled” biological community. The Loxahatchee River, which runs through the southwest portion of the park, is Florida’s first federally designated Wild and Scenic River. The park offers a variety of trail experiences, appealing to hikers, bikers, equestrians and paddlers.

Major Activities: Hiking, Biking, Mountain Biking, Paddling, Equestrian

Trail Length/Surface:

  • Florida Trail (unpaved hiking) – 9.4 miles for East Loop Trail, 5.1 total miles for Kitching Creek Trail
  • multi-use (non-motorized paved trail) trail, 1.5 miles
  • Camp Murphy Off-Road Bicycle Area (unpaved single track) trails, 9.5 miles
  • Eaglesview Special Use Area – equestrian (unpaved double track) trails, 8 miles

Fee: Park Admission
County: Martin
Nearby Towns: Stuart, Jupiter

Notes:
The park includes a portion of the Florida Trail. The start point is at the north end of the entrance station parking area. The Florida Trail Association (FTA) produces a detailed hiking guide and segment-by-segment maps which can be useful for hiking the Florida Trail. For more information on the Florida Trail or FTA, visit their website at www.florida-trail.org.

The park’s paved trail is a pleasant but short ride on a closed road. The trail is generally flat and wide, and is good for bikers of all experience levels.

The Camp Murphy Off-Road Bicycle Trails offer mountain bikers a challenging experience. The trails are maintained by the Club Scrub bike club. A more detailed map of these trails is available at their website, www.clubscrub.org.

The Eaglesview Area provides parking and double-track unpaved trails suitable for horseback riding. Contact the park for additional details.

Canoeing is available at the Loxahatchee River in the southwest portion of the park. Contact the park or visit www.floridaparktours.com for more information.

Directions:
The park is west of Hobe Sound. The park entrance can be reached off of US 1, 3.5 miles north of Jupiter or 12 miles south of Stuart.
