Tarkiln Bayou Preserve State Park is another wonderful
part of The Real Florida! Locally known as the Perdido
Pitcher Plant Prairie, the park is home to four species
of endangered pitcher plants as well as other rare and
threatened plant species. A beautiful boardwalk allows
visitors to view the splendid Tarkiln Bayou. This is
one of the last remaining bayous in Florida that has
not been impacted by human development. Various fish
and birds use the bayou for feeding and resting. For
the more adventuresome visitor a hike across the park
to the Perdido River is a nice day’s event. From
the shore of the river you can see our westerly neighbor
Alabama. The park is still in active acquisition, but
is currently over 4,000 acres in size.
